The Assitej Kickstarter Creative Arts project kicked off this January on a high note bringing together 50 artist facilitators from KZN, Freestate, Northern Cape and Gauteng. The artist facilitators went through an intense 4 days of exploring, sharing and unpacking of topics within the creative arts CAPS document for the intermediate phase (Grades 4 – 6). The exploration was based on Dance, Music and Visual Arts.
“I spent the most of last week attending the kick starter facilitator training at Trinity House Hall (University of the Witwatersrand) learning about how to deliver the new creative arts curriculum for intermediate phase, (drama, dance and visual arts) thanks to ASSITEJ SOUTH AFRICA for making sure they equip artists who are involved in schools are armed with information about curriculum, policies and changes in education. They do this continuously so we can stay relevant in our particular contexts. It was nice spending a week at Sunnyside residence inside the university with other like-minded individuals from all over south Africa. Congratulations to ASSITEJ for embarking on such a brave and mammoth task. A great way to start a year” Sizwe Vilakazi
