ASSITEJ SA is excited to announce that we will be going into a second year of the Arts4Youth Programme, which has to date employed 2499 out of work artists part-time (16 hours a week) across the 10 months, with an average employment rate of 1640 per month.
We have trained 1976 of these artists and this training has included a wide variety of areas, including:
· Arts-based workshops: i.e. Dance classes, Arts and crafts, Drama, Music, Beautification of communities; Puppetry workshops, Visual theatre workshops;
· Arts administration workshops: i.e. Funding proposals; Personal wellbeing; Digital administration; Networking; Governance; Marketing & Publicity; Management of an after school programme, etc.
· Child-directed workshops: i.e. facilitation techniques; positive discipline workshops; child safety workshops; Law and Ethics in South African Child Care Professions; Anti-bullying programmes; Literacy workshops.
We have managed to reach 54 790 children and young people weekly with our programmes, and we have managed to support 411 schools and 197 ECDs across the country with arts-based activities.
The programme has shown that the arts bring change and the arts bring hope!
We are excited that we will be able to up our numbers in the next ten months to employ 1850 part-time artists around the country, supporting around 150 of our member organisations.
